How to choose bed linen

What should you pay attention to when choosing bedding? After all, not only the material is important, but many other factors as well. We have previously discussed how to choose the right bedding material, and now we will talk about the general rules for choosing quality and beautiful bedding.

The first rule

This is naturalness. The material from which the bed is sewn must be natural. We remind you that natural designer fabrics are linen, bamboo, and cotton of various weaves, as well as their mixtures in different proportions. Pay attention to the smell of the fabric – it should not be chemical or sharp, but pleasant. And no smell of dampness or mold! This would mean that the bedding sets were stored incorrectly in the warehouse and bacteria have already started to grow.

Second

This is about color and pattern. The color of the bed often determines the mood we fall asleep and wake up with. You'll agree that everyone wants to wake up refreshed, well-rested, and in a good mood for a productive day. Well, the best colors for this are not bright ones, which might seem like they should give off energy, but quite the opposite – calm shades. Pastel shades soothe the mind, while bright ones – red, for example – psychologically affect a person, depress them, make them aggressive, and the person doesn't even notice. How does this happen: you wake up and don't think about your mood when you woke up, you just don't pay attention. But color subconsciously affects a person. And if you put bright linen on the bed or linen with a colorful, large pattern – then in the morning a person wakes up already "wound up," and the imaginary surge of energy turns into stress for the nervous system by midday.

Home me founder Sasha Dergousova: "The difference is felt when a person wakes up in a great plain bed. One that they gladly get into and enjoy lying in a pleasant-to-the-touch bed, and in the morning they wake up – and want to lie around, dream, hug a loved one."

Third rule

This is about choosing the right size of bedsheet and duvet cover. You need to choose the size so that the bedsheet can be tucked under the mattress, or an elastic band can be sewn into the bedsheet. Why? So that it doesn't bunch up at your feet during sleep and bother you, so that wrinkles don't form and press on your spine. That's why the Home me bedding brand offers enlarged bedsheet sizes of 260*280 cm, which will fit any mattress, even a very high one up to 40 cm tall, as well as the option to sew in an elastic band and securely fasten the bedsheet.

Fourth rule

Check the material's wear resistance. It depends on the density of the weave and the thickness of the threads from which the fabric is woven. While wear resistance can only be studied in detail under laboratory conditions, you can assess the material's strength even in a store. To do this, try to snag a thread with your fingernail and pull the threads apart in the weave. If it's practically impossible to do so, the weave is dense, and due to the large number of threads per square centimeter, the sheets or duvet cover will last longer, retain their texture for a long time, and won't thin out. Conversely, if the threads easily separate, the fabric is not dense and will quickly thin out from washing.

Sasha Dergousova, founder of Home me: "Cotton fabrics have a very high degree of durability. The densest of cotton weaves, percale, consists of very thin threads tightly interwoven and does not thin even after hundreds of washes."

And finally, the fifth thing to pay attention to when choosing bedding is the packaging. It should be intact and neat. Damage to the bedding packaging indicates improper storage in the warehouse, which could have affected the fabric. Natural fabrics are very sensitive to storage conditions, and a conscientious manufacturer would never allow their bedding sets to be unpackaged or stored under improper conditions.
